We read The Rainbow Fish story and learned lots of ‘sh’ words in our spelling. We also talked about ways to get along with other people and used our Golden Rule to talk about ways the Rainbow Fish could improve his ‘getting along with others’ skills.
We surveyed the children in our class and made a graph of our favourite season. We had to introduce ourselves and make sure we knew the names of all our classmates. Can you try our Seasons’ Quiz? 1. How many people liked summer the best? 2. What was the least favourite season? 3. How many children were in class that day? 4. What was your favourite season and why?
The Golden Rule is to treat others as you would like them to treat you. This means being thoughtful and looking after others and ourselves.
The children painted self-portraits and checked features such as their hair and eyes for colour and characteristics. At the same time we talked about things they liked to eat, do and play, and ways to make our class a good place to be. Best ways included taking turns (in games and listening times), being respectful (this includes self-respect and working well), and caring for others.
We are learning about 2D shapes and we used geoboards to make some shapes we knew. Can you find the squares, triangles, rectangles and diamonds? Other shapes we are learning about are ovals, pentagons, trapezoids, octagons and hexagons. Do you know the difference between a square and a rectangle? Can you tell someone else what the difference is?
In Mathematics we made patterns with shapes and colours. Can you work out what should be next in these patterns? Some of these patterns repeat colours and some repeat shapes and sequences. Then we made number patterns – some went forwards and some went backwards, with intervals of 1,2,3,5 and 10. It was tricky, but we were able to make patterns and start from different numbers
