In Mathematics we learned that a fraction is a part of a whole piece. Some fractions can be large or small – so you can have large fractions or small fractions. There are special fractions where each fraction is the same size – if a shape is divided into 2 equal parts then it is divided into halves. If the shape is divided into 4 equal parts then it’s divided into quarters. 1/8 means there is one piece out of 8 equal pieces. The bottom number of the fraction tells us how many pieces altogether and the top number refers to how many pieces we might be talking about (for example, 2/4 might refer to 2 pieces being coloured out of 4).

We have been learning about fiction books and narratives. Narratives have events in the story so the story is exciting. We read the book ‘Franklin’s bad day’ and realized that Franklin had a bad day because he was upset when his good friend Otter moved away. Franklin learned it was important to talk about things like this – he talked about it with his parents. Lots of events happened in this story, so we made an Events Ladder and starting at the bottom, you can climb the ladder with the events in order.
